Kitchen Update Part 2

The cabinets are FINISHED!!!! You have no idea how long I have been wanting to write this post, but….. life! And I don’t want to pick up another paint brush for about ten years!!! I love how they turned out though! They are definitely not perfect (I’m no pro) but the price point was! We had a few people give us quotes on new cabinets and they were all right around $12,000 because we would have to have new countertops installed as well. Our countertops are granite and are perfectly fine so it wasn’t necessary to replace them right now. It cost us around $150 to paint our existing cabinets and we couldn’t be happier with them!

You can read about the beginning of our project here. After removing all of the laminate we used one coat of Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond Primer and two coats of Sherwin Williams Pro Classic Interior Semi-gloss in Repose Grey applied with a 1 1/2 inch brush and a 6 inch mohair blend roller.

My father in law added bead board and trim to the upper and lower cabinets ends, which were painted the same as the cabinet doors. I love how they turned out and with three boys their durability has already been tested and they are holding their own and have wiped clean easily!

Winter Beauty Favorites

Is it just me or does everyone feel better about themselves in the summer?! Maybe it’s the lack of Vitamin D from being inside a lot or the few extra pounds put on during the holiday. I am usually counting down the days to warmer sunny weather, especially here in Georgia where we have hardly seen the sun in months! But this year I am using a few products that are giving me life and getting me through this season and I wanted to share them with y’all!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation

I have been using this foundation for about a month now and I’m dying to figure out why I waited so long to try it! I would recommend going to your local Ulta or department store that has an Estee Lauder counter to get color matched. They have a tool that they can put on your skin to get your exact match, it’s great! With this foundation, less is more. You can get a good coverage using just a little but it is also buildable!

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water 1oz by Smashbox

I have been using this as a primer and a setting spray and I am in love! It gives your skin a dewy look which is needed in the winter when your skin is more dry and it looks amazing in pictures!

Organic Castor Oil – 100% Certified Pure Cold Pressed, Hexane free – Boost Growth For Eyelashes, Hair, Eyebrows, Nails, Face and Skin – with Treatment Applicator Kit, 1oz (30ml)

I found this through another blogger, Destiny Thompson (Truly Destiny), and I have been using it almost every night, along with another serum. But, I can really tell a difference in the fullness of my lashes when I don’t use this one which is so great for a product that is only around $12 and comes with applicators/brushes!

Moroccanoil Thickening Lotion 3.4oz/100ml Care Yours Hair

I love the entire Moroccanoil line but this thickening lotion is my favorite!! It gives so much life to my baby fine hair! Just comb it through wet hair, dry, and instant volume. It is a must have for me in any season!

AP24 Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste

You may have seen some Facebook posts about a whitening toothpaste. I had and finally decided to try it out and I love it! It takes a little while to get used to brushing without water but it works and does not make my teeth super sensitive like many other whiteners I’ve used. If you don’t know what posts I’m talking about or can’t remember who you’ve seen post about it and want to try it, click here and message my friend Sarah! She is an ambassador for them and would love to help you!

Just a few things that are keeping me happy until Spring decides to show up! What are your beauty go to’s during the winter or at the moment?

Valentine’s Day Traditions

As our younger two boys are getting older, now 5 and 4, we are having so much fun continuing our holiday traditions as well as starting new ones! On holiday and birthday mornings the boys know that they will wake up to a “party table” in our breakfast area. This year the Target dollar spot did not disappoint! I found the cutest little mailboxes that were great for their Valentine’s treats.IMG_8773

My little ones are really into games right now so these little card holders were the perfect treat for them and the gift card to Steak and Shake for my oldest fit inside the mailbox perfectly! Of course heart shaped doughnuts were a must! (I picked them up the day before and put them in tupperware over night. I like to sleep as long as possible in the mornings!)

How cute are they in their repurposed Christmas jammies!!

The new tradition we started this year was a family Valentine’s dance party! This was the perfect chance to show the boys how to be little gentlemen and have them see the expectations that we have for them as they grow into young men. We talked to them about dinner and dance etiquette like walking up to the front door (our bedroom door) to pick a girl (me) up, pulling out their chair, and asking them to dance. We want them to know the right way to treat a girl! That doesn’t mean they are always going to do the right thing but if we give them the knowledge and expectation maybe they will use it! We got all dressed up, had a heart shaped pepperoni pizza for dinner and danced the night away! Their favorite was the Cha Cha Slide! Our oldest didn’t make it because of his youth group at church but Valentine’s won’t be on a Wednesday next year! I’m looking forward to keeping up with this cute little tradition and have already started brainstorming other things to incorporate in it next year!

Valentine’s Day Dinner

I love decorating and celebrating holidays! My mom always celebrated holidays with us as kids and those are the best memories! I have a pretty great mom! And I was blessed with a pretty great mother in law too who loves decorating and celebrating holidays just as much as I do! One of my favorite traditions of hers is her Valentine’s family dinner. She always goes all out and it never disappoints! Everything is decorated in pink, red, and pretty hearts right down to the silverware and food! This year the menu was a power green salad with tomatoes and French dressing, lasagna, garlic knots covered in marinara, pink lemonade, red jello and mini cherry cheesecakes for dessert! It was all delicious and the time spent with family was even better! I’m so thankful that my boys will have traditions like these to look back on and look forward to every year!

She always has a little gift for everyone at their place setting!

If you’re thinking right now that you wouldn’t have time to do all of this, I totally get that! Luckily, all I had to do was show up! But it would be so easy to scale this down! Instead of a homemade lasagna you could do a frozen one, spaghetti, or even a pepperoni pizza! And I’m all about cute paper plates! Less dirty dishes=Less stress and more time to spend with your family! I actually just got some really cute heart ones at Target for my 4 year old’s class party. You can totally make this work for your family and give your children lasting memories and traditions that they can continue when they have a family of their own!

This is my mother in law with our funny Valentines!

Does your family do something similar for Valentine’s Day? I would love to hear about it! The (little) boys are at a great age for starting traditions. In fact, we are starting a new one this year on actual Valentine’s Day! More on that later!

Valentine’s Day Decor

Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays to decorate for. I live in a house full of boys so I’ll take any excuse I can get to decorate with a little bit of pink and hearts! Not only do I enjoy the house being cute and festive but my boys (big and little) love it too!

Our dinning room is currently being used as a painting room for our kitchen project (that I will hopefully be sharing an update for soon) so this is our breakfast area and keeping room (aka toy room). I got a lot of the Valentine’s decor at Target, love their dollar spot!! The moss letters were found on a recent Mart trip but I found a really great DIY here where you can get the same look!

The boys love their Valentine’s Day chair backers from Pottery Barn! I always put their Valentine’s Day treats in them and they love leaving little surprises for each other! These are from a few years ago but they have some cute ones right now as well and you may be able to get them on sale if you order after Wednesday for next year!

IMG_8597

I always do a little Valentine’s breakfast for the boys and my mother in law always does a special all red Valentine’s dinner! It’s my favorite!! I’m thinking another blog post will be necessary for that! Keeping up with our holiday traditions make the best memories for our boys! Do you have any Valentine’s Day traditions? I would love to hear about them!

Getting Spring Ball Ready!

It’s hard to believe that it is already time for Spring Baseball! It makes me happy though because that means Spring and warmer weather are right around the corner!! Not only is it important to us that our boys are involved in sports/hobbies but the social interaction of being part of a team and following (sometimes, ha) directions from a coach are essential skills that they need! This will be Brantley’s 3rd Spring season and Rhett’s first! It will be a challenge coordinating their schedules but it will be fun! If you need us, you’ll know where we are!

With sign ups going on right now there are a lot of places offering discounts on clothing and equipment. Now is the time to get stocked up for the upcoming season. Dick’s has most of their Spring sports merchandise on sale and I know that our local one is offering an additional percentage off this Saturday for certain ball parks/leagues. It would be worth calling and asking about.

Also, Academy is running a Bat Trade in Promotion, where you can get 20% off any bat when you bring in your child’s old one. This is a great deal because I’m guessing a lot of people will need new bats this year with the new 2018 Youth Bat Standards. If you have no idea what I’m taking about, read this!

My husband handles the bats, helmets, gloves and such but it is my job to make sure they are dressed appropriately! Here are a few of my favorite pieces so my boys are ready, rain or shine!

I usually get nicer pair of baseball pants for pictures and games then one or two cheaper ones for practice.

Under Armour Boys’ Clean Up Baseball Pants, Baseball Gray, Youth Small

Rawlings youth baseball pants are only around $10 and are great for that price. You can find them at Academy.

A hat is so important to keep the sun out of their eyes and off their sweet faces! My boys love their Under Armour hats like this one!

Under Armour Boys’ Blitzing II Stretch Fit Cap, Black/White, Small/Medium

I usually get black belts and socks so that it will go with any team colors and they can wear them for more than a season!

Under Armour Boys’ Baseball Belt, Midnight Navy/Midnight Navy, One Size

I usually put them in a long sleeve thermal or a short sleeve dry fit for practice or under their uniform jersey for games depending on the weather. I buy a lot of Under Armour because their stuff looks nice and holds up well, which is really important for us. If I can get Brantley and Rhett to be able to wear it (and it still looks decent) I don’t mind spending more.

Under Armour Boys’ HeatGear Armour Short Sleeve Fitted Shirt, White/Steel, Youth Large

I also found these cute raglans that I’m going to order for them. I love them in little baseball tees!

Sport-Tek Youth Colorblock Raglan Jersey. YT200 Heather Grey/Red M

To keep us (me) organized I designate a drawer that is just for practice clothes and uniforms. That way I always know where they are. It is a lot less stressful than digging through the rest of their clothes. I know from experience! Ha! I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

DIY Cabinets and Paint Projects Part 1

What is it about Winter and putting away Christmas decorations that makes you want to redecorate the whole house?! It happens to me every year and I usually resist the urge and settle on getting a few new quality decor items, maybe rearranging some furniture and I call it a day. But, this year we have decided to redo our kitchen cabinets, backsplash, and dinning room ourselves! It was necessary to do something to our kitchen cabinets because they were that horrible builder grade laminate kind. The laminate was bubbling and peeling in places, made worse by our four year old, Rhett, constantly climbing on them! We looked at having someone come and replace everything but we didn’t like the price tag so we just decided to do it ourselves! We are currently in the middle of this project but I will leave you with some pictures so you have an idea of what we’re working with…

It was actually pretty easy to get all of the laminate off. Most of the cabinet doors had already started peeling and if they hadn’t we used a blow dryer to lift the edges and it worked great! We are now in the process of priming and painting in batches. Hoping to be done soon… painting is not my favorite!

We are using Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond Primer because it is a pressed wood and then Sherwin Williams ProClassic Semi-Gloss in Repose Gray. We are planning on adding bead board to the end caps and painting them the same color. Then some new tile for the backsplash and some under cabinet lighting and it will look like a new kitchen!

Repose-Gray-Sherwin-Williams-Color-Spotlight

Plans for the dinning room include painting above the chair rail the same color as the bottom, Sherwin Williams Silver Sage. I want to brighten the room up because it is smaller so I’m thinking chair covers, a cow hide rug, some window panels, and a plant.

I can’t wait to get it all done! Are you doing any projects for the New Year? Let me know and if you have redone your laminate cabinets or put in a backsplash any tips or tricks you learned would be great!!
